Brief Description
The construction of the Project Lion was undertaken by Volker Fitzpatrick. The facility has the approximate floor area of 840,000 ft2 and the building cost was approximately £45,000,000. The contract included civil engineering, building and fitting out disciplines.
The project included contiguous bored piling retaining walls, rail yard, culvert construction under the adjacent A5 trunk road, re-construction of a bridge over the main rail line, warehouse, goods in and goods out office facilities, main offices on a mezzanine floor, battery charging areas, 143 loading docks and a link bridge serving a new three storey decked car park for 778 cars. The building accommodates 11.5m high racking and employs 1,100 staff to operate 24 hours a day, during which 500 vehicles arrive and depart.
